WestJet Expands Summer 2025 Schedule with New Routes

WestJet has announced its summer 2025 schedule, featuring a 10% increase in seat capacity across its network and a 12% rise in domestic capacity. This expansion includes two new domestic destinations, three new U.S. routes, and 11 additional routes overall, reflecting the airline’s commitment to making air travel more accessible and affordable for Canadians.

“WestJet’s expanded summer schedule reflects our continued commitment to connecting Canadians by increasing our domestic and international capacity. In Canada alone we are growing capacity by 12 percent, operating to 41 airports with over 3,000 weekly departures,” said John Weatherill, WestJet Group Executive Vice-President and Chief Commercial Officer. “Offering more options for business and leisure travel, we’re excited to see our guests’ stories take off this summer as we ensure Canadians have affordable and reliable access to visit the people and destinations they love.”

Two New Domestic Destinations

For its summer 2025 schedule, WestJet will add two new domestic destinations to its network this summer, both with direct flights from Calgary. Sudbury, Ontario, will see twice-weekly service, creating a vital connection between Northern Ontario and Western Canada. Sydney, Nova Scotia, will also benefit from twice-weekly flights to Calgary, strengthening ties between Atlantic and Western Canada. These additions provide greater opportunities for Canadians to explore their own country while enjoying improved access to WestJet’s global network through its Calgary hub. Additionally, the airline is increasing capacity at major Canadian airports, including a 23% rise in Edmonton, a 31% increase in Montreal, and a 36% boost in Ottawa. Other cities, such as Winnipeg, Regina, Saskatoon, and Vancouver, will also see double-digit capacity growth.

WestJet is also expanding its transborder services with three new U.S. destinations from Alberta as part of its summer 2025 schedule. Travelers from Calgary can now fly twice weekly to Anchorage, Alaska, gaining seasonal access to stunning landscapes and cruise opportunities. Calgary will also offer three-times-weekly service to Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina, connecting Canadians to a thriving business hub. Edmonton will see the addition of five-times-weekly flights to Salt Lake City, Utah, providing access to both natural beauty and business centers. Furthermore, WestJet will enhance its Florida service with new routes to Tampa and Fort Lauderdale.

Transatlantic Flights

The airline is strengthening its international connectivity by introducing and resuming key transatlantic routes. WestJet will launch non-stop service from St. John’s to Paris on May 18, 2025, and reintroduce twice-weekly flights from St. John’s to Dublin. Halifax will benefit from returning routes to Paris and Edinburgh, as well as earlier service extensions to these destinations. WestJet’s transpacific network will also see growth, with daily flights to Tokyo and increased frequency to Incheon from Calgary, solidifying its role as a global hub for Canadian travelers.

To support this summer 2025 schedule, WestJet is integrating nine leased Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft and additional planes from Swoop and Sunwing into its fleet. These aircraft will undergo interior upgrades to ensure a consistent experience for passengers. The airline is also enhancing operational resiliency to maintain reliable service throughout its growing network. Partnerships with regional and international airports remain central to WestJet’s growth. Through its collaboration with Delta Air Lines, passengers will enjoy seamless connectivity to major U.S. destinations, such as Atlanta, Boston, and New York, via Delta’s extensive hub network.

With new routes, increased capacity, and strategic fleet upgrades, the airline is poised to provide travelers with reliable and affordable options for their summer adventures.
