WestJet will introduce new connections at Halifax Stanfield International Airport in summer 2025, offering travelers more non-stop options across Canada. New flights between Saskatoon, Regina, and Halifax will be launched for the first time, while service between Vancouver and Halifax will resume. In addition, a fresh route between Winnipeg and St. John’s will be added to the busy summer schedule.
John Weatherill, WestJet Executive Vice-President and Chief Commercial Officer, shared the airline’s goals for the coming season. “These routes bring greater choice to our guests across the country and make it easier for Canadians to access our expanding transatlantic network from Halifax and St. John’s,” he said. “As demand for summer travel continues to evolve, we are focused on flying people where they want to go, whether it’s reuniting with loved ones in the prairies, exploring new sights in the Maritimes or seamlessly connecting to Europe.”
Starting June 28, 2025, WestJet will fly once weekly between Saskatoon and Halifax Stanfield International Airport. The following day, June 29, 2025, new service from Regina to Halifax will begin. Non-stop flights between Vancouver and Halifax, previously available in 2024, will return four times weekly starting July 1, 2025. On the same date, WestJet will also commence two weekly flights connecting Winnipeg and St. John’s.

The additions are part of a larger plan to make Halifax Stanfield International Airport a gateway to Europe through one-stop connectivity. Travelers can now reach major cities such as Barcelona, Paris, Amsterdam, Dublin, Edinburgh, and London through Halifax and St. John’s. WestJet expects these expanded services to meet the growing needs of travelers heading both east and west across Canada and Europe during summer 2025.
Increased Flight Frequencies Support Growing Demand
Several existing routes will also see an increase in frequency. Flights between Winnipeg and Halifax will grow by 43 percent, offering 10 trips each week. Service between Edmonton and Halifax will rise by 8 percent to 13 trips weekly. In western Newfoundland, passengers traveling between Calgary and Deer Lake will benefit from a 50 percent increase in flights, with three trips each week starting late June 2025.
Marie Manning, Vice President of Business Development and Chief Commercial Officer at Halifax International Airport Authority, spoke about the airport’s recent developments. “Halifax is seeing record transatlantic capacity this year, and it’s exciting to see WestJet expanding their domestic offerings this summer,” she said. “We’re especially pleased to welcome non-stop services to Regina and Saskatoon for the first time and the return of the popular Halifax – Vancouver service, further strengthening Halifax Stanfield’s connections to the number of destinations last seen in 2019.”
Dennis Hogan, CEO of St. John’s International Airport, praised the new Winnipeg connection, stating, “St. John’s International Airport is thrilled with WestJet’s commitment to directly connect St. John’s and Winnipeg. This brand new, non-stop route offers further choice to passengers in the summer months and strengthens WestJet’s commitment to our region.”

Tammy Priddle, President and CEO of Deer Lake Regional Airport, also expressed support for the added service. “Deer Lake Regional Airport is excited to welcome an additional frequency to Calgary bringing the direct non-stop connection to western Canada to three times weekly starting in late June. Western NL is home to incredible tourism experiences and home for many in western Canada. The additional flight makes connecting western and eastern Canada that much easier,” she said.
James Bogusz, President and CEO of Regina Airport Authority, pointed out the impact of the new Halifax service. “WestJet has consistently demonstrated their commitment to serving our region. Introducing this new non-stop summer flight from Regina to Halifax is a significant milestone and will enhance travel options for the people of Southern Saskatchewan. In addition to fulfilling a demand for more direct connections to Canada’s East Coast, Halifax is a strong connecting city to Europe through WestJet’s expanding network,” Bogusz said.
As WestJet strengthens its network through Halifax Stanfield International Airport, travelers can look forward to improved domestic and international connections during summer 2025.
