Thai Airways and Airbus have signed a Letter of Intent to begin upgrading the cabins of the A350-900 aircraft, with work starting in 2028. The retrofit will give passengers a better in-flight experience through updated seating and entertainment systems. The move also supports Thai Airways’ ongoing fleet modernization plan, in which the A350 plays an important role.
The full retrofit will be handled by Airbus. Thai Airways expects to return the updated aircraft to service gradually. This phased approach will help reduce any disruptions to the airline’s operations. As part of the upgrade, Airbus will oversee the entire process to ensure that all improvements meet the airline’s standards.
The cabin changes will include redesigned ‘Royal Silk’ Business Class seats, a new Premium Economy section, and improved Economy Class seats. The entertainment system will also be upgraded to offer a more seamless and comfortable in-flight experience.
The new seat designs aim to offer better comfort across all travel classes. The updated entertainment system is expected to enhance the travel experience for long-haul passengers. These improvements reflect the airline’s plan to provide more comfort, convenience, and better service.

Ongoing Partnership Between Thai Airways and Airbus
This retrofit continues the long-term relationship between Thai Airways and Airbus. The A350 remains central to Thai Airways’ long-haul routes, and the planned changes will help maintain the aircraft’s value and appeal to passengers.
Balinda Zhang, Airbus Head of Commercial Services APAC, said, “Airbus is pleased to support THAI in this significant investment in their fleet, ensuring that their A350 aircraft continue to offer passengers an exceptional flying experience. This retrofit aligns with our shared vision of delivering enhanced comfort and efficiency for airlines and their customers.”
The upgrade is part of a wider effort to keep Thai Airways’ fleet current. With Airbus managing the retrofit, the airline plans to give passengers a better experience while continuing to improve its services. The cabin updates will make the A350 more attractive to both business and economy travelers.
The retrofit program confirms Thai Airways’ goal of improving its aircraft through cabin design, updated technology, and modern features.
