Qatar Airways has confirmed a new aircraft agreement with Boeing, making its largest purchase to date. This order includes up to 210 widebody jets and marks Boeing’s biggest widebody deal, with the airline planning to expand its fleet through a mix of confirmed and optional aircraft. The agreement was signed in the presence of U.S. President Donald J. Trump and His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Amir of the State of Qatar.
The deal involves 130 787 Dreamliners, making it the largest order for this aircraft model. Boeing will also deliver 30 777-9 jets, part of its newest twin-engine widebody lineup. Additionally, Qatar Airways has the option to order 50 more aircraft from both the 787 and 777X series in the future.
New aircraft to expand Qatar Airways fleet
Qatar Airways continues to strengthen its operations with a major commitment to Boeing. This new agreement includes 130 787 Dreamliners, which are known for their long-range capability and fuel efficiency. These planes use 25% less fuel compared to older aircraft they replace. The airline had already booked ten of these aircraft in previous unidentified orders. The Dreamliners also offer a more comfortable cabin experience for passengers.
Alongside the Dreamliners, Qatar Airways also placed an order for 30 of Boeing’s new 777-9 jets. The 777-9 is the largest twin-engine jet in the world and is designed for improved fuel performance, also using 25% less fuel than the aircraft it replaces. It also aims to deliver a higher level of comfort to travelers. The agreement includes an option to acquire 50 additional jets from both the 787 and 777X families.

The official announcement of the order was made with the presence of several high-level leaders from both government and business. U.S. President Donald J. Trump and His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani witnessed the signing, together with Boeing President and CEO Kelly Ortberg, Boeing Commercial Airplanes President and CEO Stephanie Pope, and Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive Officer Engr. Badr Mohammed Al-Meer.
Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive Officer Engr. Badr Mohammed Al-Meer stated, “We are happy to announce our agreement with Boeing and our partnership in the largest aircraft order in our history. A critical next step for Qatar Airways on our path as we invest in the cleanest, youngest and most efficient fleet in global aviation. This so we can meet the strong demand in the airline as we seamlessly connect passengers to the world better than anyone.”

He also added, “After two consecutive years of record-breaking commercial performance and with this historic Boeing aircraft order we’re not simply chasing scale, we’re building strength that will allow us to continue to deliver our unmatched products and customer experiences. We thank our Boeing partners for answering the call and look forward to a future of continued smart growth together.”
Boeing welcomed the announcement, with Commercial Airplanes President and CEO Stephanie Pope expressing appreciation for the airline’s trust in their aircraft lineup. “We are deeply honored that Qatar Airways has placed this record-breaking order with Boeing, one that solidifies their future fleet with our market-leading widebody airplane family at its center,” she said. “Our team is looking forward to building 787s and 777s for Qatar Airways into the next decade as they connect more people and businesses around the world with unmatched efficiency and comfort.”
Qatar Airways expands regional leadership in widebody jets
This large-scale order will increase Qatar Airways’ widebody aircraft fleet and further develop its role in connecting global passengers. The airline already operates over 150 Boeing aircraft, including passenger models of the 777 and 787, along with the 777 Freighter. With this latest deal, Qatar Airways is set to become the biggest 787 Dreamliner operator in the Middle East.
This new agreement not only supports the airline’s plans for sustainable growth but also confirms its ongoing partnership with Boeing. The addition of fuel-efficient and modern aircraft will allow Qatar Airways to meet future demand while continuing to offer long-haul services with greater comfort and lower emissions.
