Pegasus Airlines Orders 200 Boeing 737-10 Jets

Pegasus Airlines has announced plans to enhance and expand its single-aisle fleet through an agreement with Boeing for up to 200 737-10 airplanes. This purchase consists of firm orders for 100 Boeing 737-10 jets, with options for an additional 100 aircraft.

According to Boeing, the 737-10, the largest model in the 737 MAX family, is designed to accommodate up to 230 passengers and offers a range of up to 5,740 kilometers (3,100 nautical miles). It delivers a 20% reduction in fuel use and emissions compared to the airplanes it replaces. This efficiency allows Pegasus Airlines to operate more routes while achieving the lowest cost per seat of any single-aisle aircraft.

“Boeing aircraft have been an integral part of our operations since Pegasus entered the aviation industry in 1990,” said Güliz Öztürk, CEO of Pegasus Airlines. “We are pleased to be expanding our fleet with the new Boeing 737-10 model aircraft. We continue to invest in our fleet in line with our growth targets in Turkey and globally, and to expand our network by launching new routes.”

In alignment with its growth strategy, Pegasus Airlines launched operations with Boeing 737 Classic aircraft nearly 35 years ago. The addition of the 737-10 will provide flexibility and operational commonality, complementing the airline’s existing Next-Generation 737s.

Strengthening the Pegasus-Boeing Partnership

Pegasus Airlines’ agreement with Boeing represents a continuation of their long-standing collaboration. Stephanie Pope, President and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes, commented, “We have been a proud partner of Pegasus Airlines since their inception and we are excited to welcome them as the newest 737 MAX customer. We appreciate their trust in the Boeing team and we look forward to delivering on the 737-10 and its promise of greater efficiency, versatility, and reliability.”

The purchase of these 200 737-10 demonstrates Pegasus Airlines’ commitment to meeting growing travel demand while maintaining cost-effectiveness. The 737-10 will enable the airline to expand into new markets across Europe, the Middle East, Central Asia, and Africa.

Certification Timeline and Market Outlook

While the Boeing 737-10 is expected to gain certification from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) by mid-2025, the timeline remains dependent on regulatory approval. Boeing initially targeted certification for 2023, but design adjustments to components, including the engine anti-ice system and cockpit alerting requirements, have delayed the process.

“Within the scope of our agreement with Boeing, we have ordered a total of 200 Boeing 737-10 aircraft. The first 100 aircraft are firm orders, and we will be evaluating converting the remaining 100 aircraft options into firm orders in the coming years, based on market conditions and the needs of our fleet,” Öztürk stated.

Boeing’s 2023 Commercial Market Outlook predicts a demand for nearly 7,900 single-aisle airplanes in Europe and Central Asia over the next 20 years. Pegasus Airlines’ decision aligns with this trend, ensuring its readiness to meet future passenger demand.

In addition to boosting Pegasus Airlines’ operations, the order supports Turkey’s aerospace sector. “When considered within the scope of Boeing’s National Aerospace Initiative launched with the Turkish government in 2017, our order will also open new doors and create production and exports opportunities both for Turkish manufacturers and for the wider aviation industry,” Öztürk explained.

A Growing List of 737 MAX Operators

Pegasus Airlines’ purchase adds to the growing orders for the 737-10 variant, bringing total orders for the model to more than 1,200 jets. Delta Air Lines is also slated to receive its first 737-10 in 2026, highlighting the type’s global appeal among carriers aiming to optimize fleet efficiency and passenger capacity.

With this agreement, Pegasus Airlines solidifies its position in the competitive market, preparing to serve more passengers with modern and sustainable aircraft.
