Korean Air Introduces New Livery Amid Asiana Integration

Korean Air has unveiled a new livery and a refreshed corporate branding, making its first logo update in four decades. This rebranding aligns with its ongoing integration of Asiana Airlines, which is set to be fully absorbed by 2027. The airline’s transformation was officially introduced during a launch event on March 11, where it also revealed its first aircraft featuring the new design.

The first aircraft to showcase the updated branding is a Boeing 787-10 (HL8515), which was delivered in 2024. It is set to resume flights on March 12, operating between Seoul Incheon and Tokyo Narita. Korean Air has confirmed that additional aircraft will be repainted throughout the year, though marketing chief Kenneth Chang did not disclose a specific timeline. Once Asiana is fully integrated into Korean Air in 2027, its fleet will also adopt the new livery.

The new design retains the airline’s signature sky-blue color but incorporates “a newly developed paint for a metallic effect.” A key change is the simplification of the name on the aircraft, now displaying “Korean” instead of “Korean Air.” The iconic ‘Taegeuk’ symbol, which has been a defining feature for over 40 years, has also been updated to a monochromatic dark blue.

Expanded Services and Passenger Experience

In addition to the visual makeover, Korean Air has introduced enhancements to its inflight services. One of the most notable updates is its first dining menu revision in 15 years, which aims to improve the overall passenger experience.

This branding update follows a recent announcement by airline chief Walter Cho, who introduced a “corporate value system” called ‘KE Way’ as part of the company’s 56th-anniversary celebration. The initiative reflects the airline’s long-term vision as it moves forward with the integration of Asiana Airlines.

The Road to Full Integration

Korean Air first announced its plans to acquire Asiana in November 2020. The acquisition process faced regulatory challenges but was finalized in late 2024 after meeting anti-trust requirements. For now, Asiana continues to operate as a subsidiary, but the full merger is scheduled for completion on January 1, 2027.

With these changes, Korean Air is not only evolving its brand but also enhancing its services, preparing for a seamless transition as it moves closer to fully integrating Asiana Airlines.
