JetBlue and United Airlines launch new Blue Sky partnership

JetBlue and United Airlines have announced a wide-ranging collaboration called Blue Sky. This new partnership seeks to combine the strengths of both carriers while keeping each airline independent. Through Blue Sky, passengers will be able to book flights using either the JetBlue or United Airlines website or app. The agreement also allows loyalty program members to earn and redeem points across both airlines.

Blue Sky enables United Airlines MileagePlus members to earn and redeem miles on most JetBlue flights starting in fall 2025. JetBlue’s TrueBlue members will also have access to United Airlines’ vast domestic and international network. These options include routes to destinations such as Tahiti and Cape Town. Travelers will be able to manage these bookings directly on either carrier’s platform, making the experience more convenient.

Passengers who are part of loyalty programs will benefit from new features across both airlines. These include same-day flight changes, standby options, early boarding, and complimentary preferred and extra legroom seating. These benefits will apply regardless of which airline operates the flight. JetBlue and United Airlines will continue flying under their own brands and flight numbers.

JetBlue and United interline arrangements

The Blue Sky agreement also includes an interline arrangement that provides greater connectivity for travelers. In addition, JetBlue will provide access to several takeoff and landing slots at JFK International Airport. These slots will allow United Airlines to begin operating up to seven daily roundtrip flights from JFK in 2027. Furthermore, both carriers will exchange eight departure and arrival times at Newark Liberty International Airport.

A major component of this agreement is the integration of JetBlue’s Paisly platform into United Airlines’ online tools. This technology will allow customers to book hotel rooms, rental cars, cruises, and travel insurance directly on United Airlines’ website or app. United Airlines believes the Paisly platform will enhance the digital travel experience for its customers.

JetBlue Chief Executive Officer Joanna Geraghty described the initiative as “a bold step forward for the industry — one that brings together two customer-focused airlines to deliver more choices for travelers and value across our networks.” United Airlines Chief Executive Officer Scott Kirby added that “Blue Sky reflects our airlines’ shared focus on innovation and the customer experience.”

Jetblue and United network

JetBlue operates about 180 flights daily from JFK and 130 flights each day from Boston Logan International Airport. These flights include service to popular Florida cities like Orlando and Fort Lauderdale. JetBlue also serves 15 destinations that United Airlines does not, including Martha’s Vineyard in Massachusetts, Cartagena in Colombia, Kingston in Jamaica, and Ponce in Puerto Rico.

The collaboration will offer JetBlue passengers access to United Airlines’ global network. This includes 165 cities in the United States, eight in Canada, 31 in Latin America, 27 in Europe, five in Africa, two in the Middle East, 15 in Asia, and 14 in the South Pacific. For TrueBlue members, this presents a significant expansion in travel options.

JetBlue will become the first airline partner to use United Airlines’ Kinective Media advertising technology. This tool helps connect passengers with personalized offers, travel experiences, and branded content. Additionally, corporate customers may gain new benefits under the partnership. Some negotiated discounts and corporate travel services may extend to flights operated by both JetBlue and United Airlines.
