Delta is set to enhance connectivity between the United States and Australia by launching a new nonstop route between Los Angeles (LAX) and Melbourne (MEL). Starting in December 2025, travelers will have direct access to one of Australia’s most dynamic cities, enjoying Delta’s renowned service and modern amenities. The airline will operate the route using the Airbus A350-900, offering passengers a comfortable and high-quality experience.
This new addition strengthens Delta’s network, making Melbourne the third Australian destination in its portfolio, alongside Sydney and Brisbane. It also expands the airline’s reach in the South Pacific, which includes flights to Auckland and Papeete. As the largest carrier at LAX, Delta aims to provide seamless travel options for customers flying to Melbourne or connecting to other international destinations.
“Delta’s new service to Melbourne reflects our commitment to connecting customers with the world’s most exciting destinations,” said Paul Baldoni, Senior Vice President of Network Planning at Delta. “As the largest carrier at LAX, we’re proud to provide a premium experience, whether customers are exploring Melbourne or connecting through our Los Angeles hub to destinations around the globe.”

Premium Travel Experience on the Airbus A350-900
Delta passengers on the LAX to Melbourne flights will travel aboard the Airbus A350-900, which features four cabin options: Delta One Suites, Delta Premium Select, Delta Comfort+, and Main Cabin. Delta One offers fully reclining seats, artisan-made amenity kits, plush bedding from recycled materials, and chef-curated meals. Delta Premium Select provides a more spacious seating arrangement with a deeper recline, an adjustable footrest, and an enhanced dining experience.
All passengers can expect an upgraded in-flight dining selection, including specialty snacks and a premium selection of beer, wine, and spirits. Entertainment options include complimentary access to over 1,000 hours of content through Delta Studio, ensuring a pleasant journey.
Melbourne, known for its vibrant culture, offers visitors a mix of art, food, and adventure. The city’s art scene includes renowned galleries and street murals, while its food culture blends award-winning restaurants with hidden laneway cafes. Sports enthusiasts can experience major events like the city’s Grand Slam tournament. For those looking to explore beyond the city, Melbourne serves as a gateway to natural wonders such as the Great Ocean Road, Yarra Valley vineyards, and Phillip Island’s famous penguins.

Delta’s Commitment to Quality and Reliability
As travelers prepare to experience Melbourne with Delta, they can rely on the airline’s strong operational performance. Delta was named “Top U.S. Airline” by The Wall Street Journal for the fourth consecutive year and received Cirium’s Platinum Award for operational excellence. It also maintained its position as North America’s most on-time airline in 2024, reinforcing its commitment to reliability and customer satisfaction.
With this new route, Delta continues to strengthen its international network while offering travelers a high-quality experience. Melbourne’s cultural and natural attractions, combined with Delta’s premium service, make this an exciting addition to the airline’s growing list of destinations.
