Delta has started its first nonstop flight connecting New York-JFK and Catania, bringing Sicily directly into its U.S. network. The new daily service began on May 21, 2025, and marks Delta’s first operation in Sicily and the only direct link between Catania and the United States. This addition strengthens Delta’s presence in the Italian market and opens a new route to one of the most visited cities in southern Italy.
Catania sits on Sicily’s eastern coast, beneath Mount Etna. Known for its historic landmarks, open-air markets, and coastal scenery, the city offers travelers a mix of heritage, nature, and culinary experiences. With easy access to places like Taormina, Siracusa, and Noto, visitors can explore more of Sicily from this newly connected hub. Taormina features a Greek theater with panoramic views of the sea and the volcano. Siracusa preserves centuries of history, while Noto displays classic baroque architecture.
Delta expands Italian presence with new Sicily route
With this new connection, Catania becomes the fifth Italian city served by Delta, joining Rome, Milan, Venice, and Naples. According to Matteo Curcio, Delta’s Senior Vice President for Europe, the Middle East, Africa and India, “Catania will be the fifth Italian city served by Delta from the U.S., along with Rome, Milan, Venice and Naples. Sicily is a highly sought-after destination and many Italian Americans have strong bonds with this wonderful Italian region. We are convinced that our service will benefit the region’s economy with regards to incoming tourism, as well as offering great connectivity to the U.S. for Sicilians.”

Passengers landing in New York through this new route gain access to Delta’s wide network across North America. From JFK, connections are available to destinations including Los Angeles, Miami, and Chicago, making onward travel convenient and efficient.
Delta flies this route using a Boeing 767-300 with 216 seats. The aircraft provides multiple cabin choices including Delta One, Delta Premium Select, Delta Comfort, and Delta Main1. The Delta One experience includes lie-flat seats, bedding designed by Italian brand Missoni, a four-course meal, and Taittinger Champagne. Passengers also receive updated amenity kits, and a mattress pad to improve in-flight rest. In Delta Premium Select, travelers enjoy more space and added comforts, while Delta Comfort and Delta Main1 offer a variety of services to meet different needs.
Upgraded cabin features and onboard experiences
Every seat includes access to Delta Studio, where passengers can watch over 1,000 hours of entertainment. The airline also offers fast, free Wi-Fi on all transatlantic flights, including the new Catania route, powered by T-Mobile. Travelers in all cabins can enjoy thoughtfully chosen food and drinks.

Delta One travelers also gain access to the Delta One Lounge at JFK. Designed to reflect the look and energy of New York City, the lounge features a brasserie, signature bar, wellness zone, and a library-style space decorated with Missoni touches. This facility is available to enhance the full experience before the flight begins.
With the addition of this route, Delta will operate up to 110 flights per week between Italy and the U.S. during the summer of 2025. This represents a 15 percent increase in its Italy-U.S. operations compared to the previous year.
This new nonstop service to Catania strengthens Delta’s network in Italy and gives passengers another way to reach one of the most visited regions in southern Europe.
