Cathay Pacific resumed its nonstop service between Hong Kong and Rome on June 5, 2025, marking its return to Italy’s capital after several years. This route has been added as part of the airline’s seasonal summer schedule and becomes the fourth destination to join its growing network in 2025.
Rome joins Hyderabad, Dallas-Fort Worth, and Urumqi as part of Cathay Pacific’s new routes introduced this year. In addition, HK Express, the low-cost carrier under the Cathay Group, has already begun services to Sendai, Nha Trang, Ishigaki, Komatsu, Changzhou, and Yiwu since the start of 2025. Together, these developments bring the group closer to reaching 100 passenger destinations within the year.
The new Hong Kong-Rome flights operate three times weekly—on Mondays, Thursdays, and Saturdays—using the Airbus A350-900. The aircraft features 38 flat-bed Business Class seats, 28 Premium Economy seats, and 214 Economy seats. This model is one of the most efficient aircraft in Cathay Pacific’s fleet in terms of fuel use and onboard comfort.

Rome becomes Cathay Pacific’s second destination in Italy, alongside its existing daily return flights to Milan. The airline already flies to several other European cities, including Amsterdam, Barcelona, Frankfurt, London Heathrow, Madrid, Manchester, Paris, and Zurich.
“Rome has long been an important destination for Cathay Pacific and a popular one among our customers. We first launched flights to the city in 1986 and we are thrilled to be back once again connecting our home, Hong Kong, with the Eternal City. We look forward to welcoming customers onboard with our signature Cathay Pacific service,” said Cathay Chief Customer and Commercial Officer Lavinia Lau.
Rome service part of larger European expansion
In addition to its Rome route, Cathay Pacific also plans to start services to Munich and Brussels later this summer. These new flights are part of the airline’s continued expansion in Europe. Once the new routes are operating, the carrier will offer nearly 100 return flights per week to 12 destinations across the continent.
Lau added, “In addition to Rome, we will also be launching flights to Munich and Brussels this summer. In total, we will be operating close to 100 return flights per week to 12 European destinations, providing our customers with even greater connectivity between Hong Kong and this important region.”

Customers traveling from European cities now have increased access to destinations throughout the Asia-Pacific region. This includes connections to 22 cities in Mainland China served by both Cathay Pacific and HK Express. With 16 new destinations being added in 2025 and more announcements expected, the Cathay Group continues to expand its reach and restore its pre-pandemic network.
As Cathay Pacific adds Rome back to its route map, travelers can expect more convenient options between Europe and Asia in the coming months. The group’s network is expected to reach 100 destinations worldwide by mid-2025, demonstrating its continued recovery and focus on global connectivity.
