AirAsia Aviation Group is on an ambitious growth trajectory. The airline is adding 14 new aircraft to its fleet in 2025. Four aircraft come directly from Airbus, with 10 leased. This expansion comes as travel demand increases across Southeast Asia and other regions.
“We are accelerating towards pre-pandemic growth rates faster than anticipated, and this expansion is a testament to our confidence in the market’s strength. Demand is up, load factors and yields remain strong, and we are laser-focused on route optimizations with a disciplined focus on cost efficiency,” said Bo Lingam, Group CEO of AirAsia Aviation Group. “This positions AirAsia steadily to seize future growth opportunities and with the latest aircraft technology, we are future-proofing our operations for the next decade, setting the foundation for long-term, sustainable growth.”
AirAsia anticipates carrying 70 million passengers in FY2025. This represents an 11% increase year-on-year. The International Air Transport Association (IATA) forecasts a 7.9% growth in Asia Pacific passenger numbers for 2025. AirAsia is well-positioned to capitalize on this growth with its expanded fleet and focus on operational efficiency.

Network and Hub Strategy
AirAsia’s network provides connectivity across Asia-Pacific, Central Asia, the Middle East, and other regions. The airline’s mega hubs in Kuala Lumpur and Bangkok, along with hubs in Indonesia, the Philippines, and Cambodia, support this network. This strategy allows AirAsia to connect passengers to a wide range of destinations efficiently.
AirAsia is also preparing for an upcoming aviation corporate exercise. This will involve consolidating the airline’s network and integrating short-haul and long-haul operations. The Airbus A321XLR and A321LR will support regional and long-haul connectivity. The Airbus A330 fleet will be used for long-haul routes and expansion into new intercontinental markets.

Focus on Growth and Efficiency
AirAsia prioritizes operational excellence and cost leadership. The airline is focused on strengthening its domestic market share and improving Fly-Thru connectivity. AirAsia plans to expand into new global destinations in the medium term.
“This is more than about expanding our fleet— it’s about putting more flights where our guests need them most, opening up new destinations, and making travel even more seamless and affordable,” said Lingam. “Every aircraft we deploy is a step toward giving our guests more choices, better connections, and the best value in the skies.”
AirAsia’s fleet expansion and network optimization efforts contribute to its efficient and sustainable growth model. The airline is committed to providing affordable and reliable travel options while expanding its reach and connectivity.
