Air India Plans Direct Flights to Manila and Jakarta

Air India Plans Direct Flights to Manila and Jakarta

Reports have it that Air India is planning to expand its international reach with the launch of new direct flights to Manila and Jakarta in the summer of 2025. This move will provide better connectivity between India and Southeast Asia, giving travelers more seamless travel options.

Despite the strong economic ties and increasing travel demand between India and ASEAN nations, direct air connectivity between these regions has remained limited. No airline currently operates non-stop flights between India and Manila, requiring travelers to rely on connecting flights through hubs such as Singapore, Bangkok, and Kuala Lumpur.

For Indonesia, the options for direct flights are also few. IndiGo operates services from Mumbai to Jakarta and Bengaluru to Bali, while Air India took over the Delhi-Bali route after its merger with Vistara. The introduction of direct flights to Manila and Jakarta will help bridge this gap and provide more convenient travel options for both business and leisure passengers.

Strengthening Air India’s Presence in Southeast Asia

The decision to add these new destinations aligns with Air India’s strategy of expanding its global network. Southeast Asia remains a key market for airlines due to its rapidly increasing travel demand. With more travelers flying between India and the region for trade, tourism, and business, the need for direct flights continues to grow.

Apart from Manila and Jakarta, Air India is also looking into further expanding its services in Southeast Asia. Future destinations under consideration include Hanoi, Bali, and Phnom Penh. These developments support India’s broader efforts to enhance ties with ASEAN nations through improved connectivity.

Competing with Other Airlines

Air India’s entry into these routes will introduce new competition in the market. Many passengers traveling to Manila and Jakarta currently rely on one-stop services operated by other carriers. With these new flights, travelers will have the option of flying non-stop, reducing total travel time.

While IndiGo has been strengthening its operations in the region with flights to destinations like Bangkok and Krabi, Air India offers a different experience as a full-service airline. With premium economy and business class options, it caters to both leisure and corporate travelers who seek more comfort.

What to Expect from the Expansion

Although Air India has yet to officially confirm flight schedules, reports suggest that services to Manila and Jakarta will begin by mid-2025. The expansion is expected to enhance travel between India and Southeast Asia while strengthening Air India’s position in the international market.

As the airline continues its global growth, the launch of these new routes marks another step in its effort to improve connectivity and service. Travelers can look forward to more direct options, reduced layovers, and a smoother journey between India and these key Southeast Asian cities.
